Our experience is that you need to free people from their present concerns and engage them in futures thinking if you are to have any chance of developing a plan that is at all strategic and will position you for the future. The approaches we use take you out 10 -15 years, allow you explore the future you want to create and then identify the key shifts needed to get there. Your strategic actions will then be the means for creating that future. The big trap is confusing operational planning with strategic planning.

Case Study
Partners in Change ran a 1 day Transitions workshop for an organisation that was closing an office. The focus was on the transitions staff were experiencing. This approach enabled staff to recognise that what they were experiencing was both normal and individual. They explored career drivers, motivators, work values, and strengths. We also looked at different ways of thinking about careers including portfolio and encore careers. The workshop was followed up with 1 on 1 sessions for staff.
