Baby boomers have at each life stage challenged the norms. They are doing the same in their second half.
For boomers retirement will be different from the way it was for their parents. In fact rather than talk about "retirement" it is probably more accurate to talk about rebalancing your life. Who says your exit from the workforce needs to be linked to entitlement to superannuation? You can challenge the norms and create your own future, rebalance your life and rethink the place of paid employment alongside other interests and contributions.

Employers are needing to rethink how they engage with their ageing workforce. If they keep doing what they have always done they will inevitably experience labour and skill shortages.
Flexibility in employment is critical to retaining boomers, yet on its own will be insufficient. Deeply entrenched beliefs about ageing and flexibility also need to be challenged. Employers also need to rethink how they manage succession and the structuring of jobs. If they don't the next generation will increasingly encounter a "gray ceiling" - older workers staying on and blocking promotional opportunities.This will fuel stereotypes and create resentment.
